Beech

The main element for the production of our slatted wood is beech.

The name Beech derives from the greek faghein = eat, the fruit that the tree produces and to which the pigs are greedy.
Beech seed - Beech tree of 40 mt The Beech is a tree with thick foliage that often reaches large sizes (up to 40 meters high and over a meter and a half in diameter), it has a straight and cylindrical trunk, a smooth and thin ash grey bark with whitish spots. It is a long-lived plant that normally reaches 150 years. In Italy it is widespread throughout the Alps and Apennines. Wood is the main product of beech; pinkish-white colored, rather hard and compact, it is used in joinery worksat the lathe, moreover, since it lends itself to being steam-bent it strives to chairs, furniture, structures and bed slats manifacture.

The technique of steam bending has been developed over years to reach its peak at the turn of the First World War (1914) with the firm Thonet that, through this technique, produced Thonet chairs, still famous.

What is the bending Thonet technique

Bending in Marion’s bed frames. The bending Thonet technique of curvature consists in blocking the pieces of evaporated wood inside forms so as to prevent movement.
Then the wood is bent together with the forms. These forms also have the advantage of being able to be used, after the bending, as models for drying the bent wood.
The steam bending is a complicated process that requires a lot of work:steam, folding machines and, for each piece of wood, the forms for l'essiccatura, all of these elements are needed. After this, the bent blanks are still to be profiled and milled.
Once realized the bed frame structure in beech wood, the slats are equipped with weight regulators and mounted to the frame with the aid of rubber rocking joints.
Finally, the bed frames are equipped with electric motor built and tested in Germany.
