Summer has arrived and with it also one of the most annoying problems of the hottest season of the year: the mosquitoes. Even your nights are tormented by the buzz around the ear of these warlike insects sucking blood and by the knowledge that, soon, you will be bit on the naked skin? We can now declare opened the mosquitoes hunting and, at this point , you just have to choose between two options : fill your bedroom with a toxic cloud of chemical insecticides which can wipe out any living being ; or turn to Mother Nature to discover the properties of many mosquito repellent plants easy to grow (to be placed in the garden or in pots on balconies), capable of providing solutions with zero environmental impact.

Who has a garden knows very well how this problem is difficult to combat, both day and night. The main reason is the fact that these insects reproduce themselves in any place there is water (even in very small pools) and the garden is a perfect spot. The use of readily available and simple specific plants to grow in your garden, as well as on your balcony or terrace, in addition to warding off these ravenous insects, they are 100% natural remedy and therefore non-toxic for both people and animals, the environment in general. LEMON GRASS - The number one mosquito enemy! This is the reason why you should never fall short of it on your balcony. This evergreen plant, native to southern Asia, gives rise to a great tuft even with an ornamental function and its leaves, which form long grass blades, give off a strong aroma, similar to lemon, hated by insects. No coincidence that essential oils are extracted from the Citronella which are used to compose the famous candles that are lighted up on summer evenings.

ROSEMARY - This does not remove only mosquitoes but also a lot of insects and pests harmful to other plants. Rosemary stems and blooms in summer and it is great for those who have a garden, to create low and scented hedges especially near the place where you eat, so you have a real barrier against mosquitoes. The only care concerns pruning that must be constant to keep it in order, but the reward is far greater than the commitment because, in addition to warding off the mosquitoes, is excellent as a spice to your dishes!

LAVENDER - always known for its delicate and heady fragrance and the beautiful purple hues of its flowers, also possesses valuable properties anti-mosquitoes. Very easy to grow in the garden or in pots, in summer shapes colorful and spectacular fragrant shrubs. If you love strong scents you will have no doubts in choosing the most fragrant species, namely the Lavandin.

BASIL - Here is another aromatic plant, beautiful, fragrant and with a thousand uses. You can use it in cooking to flavor salads, meat dishes, in soups, on pizza and pasta and also to push away mosquitoes and flies. And it is perfect to keep in a jar on the balcony, perhaps next to the windows, so you can ward off mosquitoes and always have its fragrant and delicious leaflets on hand for a last-minute sauce.

GERANI - Their decorative flowers are very colorful and very popular on the balconies and terraces of many houses, why not in your own! They perform a decorative function, but thanks to their smell, for their so strong repellent power towards insects, especially against mosquitoes, they are renamed "mosquitaway".

MARIGOLD - From the beautiful colorful flowers, this plant releases an intense and unwelcome smell to mosquitoes, wasps and hornets. It contains pyrethrum, a compound used in many insect repellents, and if grown in pots, it can be placed in strategic areas such as the entrance of the house or the windowsills.
