Quiz: scelta del materasso

Choosing a new mattress is not exactly the easiest thing in the world!
“It is better to sleep well on a hard surface such as marble because it is good for your back!”.
“It is better to choose a latex mattress because it does not create mold!”.
“A good mattress can be placed on any net”.
The easiest thing we usually do is to rely on the advice of our friends, relatives and acquaintances, ignoring the views of experts in the field that, on the contrary, would help us to avoid traumatic awakenings.
To clarify your thoughts we propose a series of myths about the mattresses.

A firm mattress is good for your back.

To avoid back pain and lower back, many doctors mistakenly advise to sleep on hard mattresses. However, recent studies showed another truth: a mattress with medium rigidity seems to have more beneficial effects on back pain. It is important, in fact, that the mattress fits optimally to the anatomical shape of the body and therefore, it should not be either too hard or too soft. It is important for the spine to maintain its natural position.

A good mattress lasts for a lifetime.

How many times have you heard “This mattress will last you for a lifetime”. Wrong! A good mattress, taking all necessary precautions, can endure for 10-15 years, there is no other truth.
The body changes and with it your skeleton, so the mattress you bought 20 years ago, today is not certainly suitable for your needs anymore.
Consider another factor: after 10 or 15 years, a traditional mattress can contain a huge amount of dust, mites, germs, mold and fungus. This proliferation of creatures inside your mattress can cause serious health problems and, more importantly, can lead to the creation of annoying allergies to dust, which you would hope not even to your worst enemy. No doubt, if your traditional mattress has already surpassed the decade since a long time, it is time to change it!

It is important to turn the mattress upside-down and rotate head-foot.

Because of prolonged stress over time and always at the same points, all mattresses tend to adapt to our physical shape. It is a bit as if for 10 years (3650 days) every night we always sit on the same chair to watch tv. Surely, the cushion and backrest ,welcoming us, will have lost their original shape becoming uncomfortable.
For a proper maintenance of the mattress, it would be perfect to turn it upside down and rotate head-feet at least 1 time per week. In this way you avoid the "impression" effect that may cause troughs reducing the performance of the mattress.
This rule is valid in part for the Memory Foam mattresses, because of their layered composition which sees the Memory in the upper part, they only need to be rotated head-foot.

A good mattress can be placed on any net.

Too often it is not given the right importance to the net which supports the mattress. Actually, the choice is crucial because not all are equivalent and, above all, not all are suitable for any type of mattress. It is important to invest a bit of time and attention in the choice of it, as a good retirement system will definitely ensure a better sleep.
It would be good practice to ask your dealer the ideal net specific for the mattress you intend to purchase.

The latex does not get moldy.

The latex mattresses are produced through a vulcanisation process: briefly, the liquid latex is worked up to become an emulsion which is left to solidify by drying. The cells that contained the water, turn into open pores that ensure a high breathability (distinctive characteristic of the latex).
To ensure the effectiveness of this characteristic,it is essential to back the mattress on an open base which ensures the correct transpiration, avoiding the formation of mold.
Therefore, completely closed support bases and environments with poor ventilation, which could improve water retention and the formation of mold, are to be avoided.
“The latex does not get moldy”. This statement is true if you do the proper maintenance and, at the same time, may be false if you do not equip the latex mattress of the right support.

The water mattress can pierce.

The materials used for the coating of the water mattress are very resistant, thus, domestic animals and a suitable use can not puncture it.
The lining is in preshrunk cotton, a special treatment capable of increasing the dimensional stability of the fabric. But if due to an incorrect use, it pierces, there is no danger of flooding for our bedroom as the mattress is placed inside a containment tank which, in fact, contains the water in case of breakage.
